World Team Tennis League

What is World Team Tennis? WTT is co-ed teams competing in a format that consists of 6 no-ad sets. One set each of men’s & women’s doubles followed by men’s & women’s singles, ending with 2 sets of mixed doubles.

What is a WTT Team? A team must have at least two men and two women, up to a 10-player maximum. This allows you the flexibility to adjust your roster size according to the number of weeks that your teammates wish to commit to. No age restrictions as long as you have at least 2 adult men and 2 adult women. Juniors under 18 cannot play in the regionals due to liability requirements.

Who can play? We have a broad range of players in the league, ranging from approximately a 2.5/3.0 – 4.0 (USTA ratings not required), with teams arranged into two or three levels of playLow Intermediate, Intermediate and High Intermediate.

What is a league? A league is defined as a scheduled “season” of play. The number of matches will be determined by the number of teams, with 4 teams participating, playing each team twice, there would be 6 matches.

When do leagues start? Target dated is November for both 3.5 league and the 3.0 league.

What Divisions (levels of play) are offered? There are three divisions: Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate. NTRP ratings are helpful, but not required. Low Intermediate division is not eligible to move to regional play.

Determining Team Rating. The average NTRP rating of the top two men and top two women players on your team determines the team rating.
Joe = 4.0 Mary = 3.5
Tom = 3.0 Jill = 3.0
Bill = 3.0 Gail = 3.0
Example of top 2 men and top 2 women players: 4.0 + 3.5 + 3.0 + 3.0 = 13.5. 13.5 divided by 4 players = 3.375. This team would register for the 3.5 and under division (High Intermediate). No team may carry a player more than one NTRP point above the division entered. A team consists of a minimum of two men and two women. Although the limit to the number of team members is ten, the suggested number of players is three men and three women.

Where do we play? All matches are played at Berkshire West Athletic Club. Our current plans are to have the 3.5 league Friday nights from 7-9, bar open until 10:00 p.m. and the 3.0 league Saturday evenings, 6-8 p.m., bar is open until 9:00 p.m.

Can I register as an individual/team? You could become the captain and form a team. Or, if you don’t have a team but wish to play, we will find an existing team for you.

Why register via the Internet? You are not an official league participant until you have registered online. When you register via the Internet site you will be e-mailed league information during the season as well as WTT Member Benefits (WTT Point of Contact Newsletter, discounts on hotel, rental cars, 2 for 1 tickets, plus more).

What is the cost? There is no charge for registering on-line. This is covered by BWAC’s licensing fees. The cost for playing is a $15 flat fee each time you play.

League winners qualify for a National Qualifier? Winning teams advance to the WTT National Qualifiers. Your team is eligible to participate in a NQ for up to one year from the end date of your league. For every four teams in any official World Team Tennis (WTT) league (one qualifies during each league event or season), one team will be eligible to participate in a NQ.

Local League Information and Rules: Started in 1985, the WTT Recreational League program features year-round leagues that have provided playing opportunities for more than 415,000 tennis players across the U.S. This is the first year for the Berkshire West league. Division champions are eligible for the regional and national World Team Tennis events.
